Udaipur to Ranakpur — carved marble pillars inside the Ranakpur Jain temple

Udaipur → Ranakpur

Udaipur to Ranakpur: Distance, Route & Drive Time

Udaipur to Ranakpur is about 90 km, and takes roughly two to two and a half hours by road through the Aravalli hills. It is one of the loveliest short drives in Rajasthan — and it is almost always done together with Kumbhalgarh, which changes how you should plan the day.

The road climbs through forest for much of the way, and the surface is good. Add time for stops, because you will want them. Public buses run, but for a day that includes Kumbhalgarh a car and driver is the only sensible option.

The right order

Kumbhalgarh first,
then Ranakpur

This is the one piece of planning that matters. Non-Jain visitors are generally admitted to the Ranakpur temple only from around midday, while Kumbhalgarh opens in the morning. So drive out early, take Kumbhalgarh and a stretch of its enormous ridge wall first, eat on the road, and reach Ranakpur for the afternoon.

Do it the other way round and you will arrive at a closed temple and a wasted morning. Ranakpur wants at least ninety minutes — its 15th-century Chaumukha Adinath temple carries 1,444 carved marble pillars, and rushing them is a small tragedy.

This exact day, plus Udaipur's lakes and the Dilwara temples at Mount Abu — five days, privately run, timings confirmed.

Good to Know

Questions,

About 90 km, and roughly two to two and a half hours by road through the Aravalli hills. The road is good and the drive is genuinely beautiful, so allow more time than the map suggests.
Yes, and it is the best day trip in Rajasthan. Kumbhalgarh is about 85 km out and Ranakpur about 90 km, with roughly 50 km between them. Do Kumbhalgarh in the morning and Ranakpur in the afternoon — the temple only admits non-Jain visitors from around midday.
Non-Jain visitors are generally admitted from around midday until late afternoon; mornings are reserved for worship. The hours shift, so confirm on the day. Photography rules are strict, and there is a dress code — cover shoulders and knees, and leather is not permitted inside.
By road. A private car and driver is the practical choice, especially if you are combining it with Kumbhalgarh. Buses run but they will not fit both sites into one day, and the last stretch is a hill road.
Yes. The 15th-century Chaumukha Adinath temple holds 1,444 carved marble pillars, traditionally said to be all different, and the interior is among the finest in India. Give it ninety minutes at least.
